The most meaningful gift....
~Here's a quick little background, After we'd moved out of that house 7 years later we looked everywhere for my mother's belongings. Certain things were very special to us and we never found them, we thought they'd been accidentally thrown out and gone forever....~
My dad checked all over the attic and finally in this small corner, there sat 3 boxes. He checked inside the boxes and THERE was my mother's things. For 18 years it sat up there collecting dust, and my dad decided he'd go check and I am so glad he did. He divided the things up to which ones would mean the most to each of us and that was our gift from him, the greatest gift.
I haven't yet seen what it is that I got, but I don't care what it is, its something that was my mom's.
I am so thankful that my dad has done this for me and my sisters it meant so much to all of us. I was blown away that all of the things were still there.
This is one of those things that we realize its not the amount of money we spend on a gift, it isn't where we buy the gifts, it truly is the thought that counts because this is the most heartwarming and amazing thing I've ever received. I also wanted to thank Val & Ron, who are the best in-laws a girl could ask for, thank you for everything! Thanks to all of those who sent their love through the mail and remembered us this Christmas!! I hope everyone had a great Christmas! We missed our families and we love you!!

Angels Among Us

"You are never so lost that an angel can't find you."
Tonight I went to Enrichment night with my neighbor and good friend Molly. As you all know I have been inactive in the church for years now. I have been thinking about attending church again now for the last few years. Mostly for my kids sake, but tonight, I really thought about it.
The Enrichment night theme was "Angels Among Us" and a few women stood up and spoke about someone in their life that they considered an angel to them and why. It really got me thinking. It was such a great dinner and program that I came home and I was inspired to blog about it. I have so many people that have blessed my life that I consider my angels, but I really wanted to talk about one person who has really made such a difference in my life in the short time I have known her.
My angel is Molly, my next door neighbor and new friend. Molly and Jason and their cute little boy, Carter live next door to us. When we moved in, they immediately came over to introduce themselves to us because they saw our University of Utah license plates and they are big fans also. I thought to myself, "Wow, what a coincidence that we move to Las Vegas and we have Ute fans as neighbors!" but the more I got to know their beautiful family, the more I realized that it wasn't a coincidence at all. Over the past few months, Molly and Jason have been so kind and invite us over for dinner, they spend time with our kids and just welcomed us with open arms. Molly is one of the nicest people I have ever met and I just wanted to let her know how much she has impacted my life here, made it so much easier transitioning into a new place for me and my family.
It may seem to her like something that is just second nature, but it means the world to me. So, thank you Molly for everything and I appreciate you!! I feel like certain people who come into our lives are there for a reason, its just up to us to figure out what it is. I am just grateful that we met and became friends! For this Christmas season, I tag all of you reading this blog to think about someone who is one of your "Angels Among Us" and blog about it;) Merry Christmas!!

Father & Son.......

One of my favorite things in the world to see is Tyson with our kids. Today Tyson was helping Kai with his homework and I was watching them together and teared up a little. I kept hearing Tyson teach Kai how to sound out words, and Kai exclaiming, "Oh, I get it now, Nene you are a good teacher!" As all of you know, technically Tyson is Kai's step-dad, but you would never be able to tell. Tyson has been in Kai's life since Kai was 18 months old. We've taught Kai that he is lucky to have 2 dads, and that's how he sees it. I can't imagine how hard it would be to be a step-parent, but Tyson makes it look so easy. From the day they met they had this connection that can't be denied. Tyson is a wonderful father and I just love seeing him treat Kai like his own. Kai looks up to him and talks like him and has some of the same mannerisms. Its so sweet, Man, I am a lucky girl!
Personality Plus!

Tonight we thought Ashtyn was asleep, well at least she SHOULD have been! Then we hear these little footsteps coming down the stairs and there is our little Ashtyn with all of the headbands she could find on her head. Then she told us to wait a minute, she must have forgotten something, so I followed her into the guest room (where her dress-up clothes are) and she put on the final touch, purple high heels. The next post I'll get some pics of Kai being silly, he was actually asleep when this happened;)

Ashtyn's new coat......

Ashtyn and Kai are growing like weeds. I realized that their coats were too small, so I took their outgrown clothes to Kid to Kid to trade in and get the size that fits. I saw this coat and it screamed, "ASHTYN!" I mean, its pink with fur and has strawberry shortcake on the back! She saw it hanging in our closet (drying from washing it) and yelled, "Oooooh pretty, so pretty." Tyson couldn't help himself and immediatley put it on her. She came downstairs prancing and twirling around the house. I am shocked I managed to get a picture of her holding still with it on. She's hopefully asleep right now.
I went to check on her, literally 10 minutes after taking the 1st picture and this is what I found..........
Keepin it real.....
"I have had such great experiences here in Las Vegas. I really like people who speak their mind. I can't stand fake people and I know ALOT of them. I am blessed to have friends here who speak their mind, that way you always know where you stand with them. What is the boundary between real and fake these days?? I have always been a person with no or hardly a filter, I realize that might be negative sometimes, but at least you always know where you stand with me. So where is the line between being real and being polite?? Example: If there was something stuck between my teeth, I'd LOVE for someone to tell me rather than brush it off and let me go the whole day with this green thing between my teeth. I know so many fake people and I wish they'd be real and just be honest about who you are. Its okay to have struggles, its okay to have feelings. That just makes you HUMAN and REAL..... I know everyone has had their own struggles in life....But their is a big difference between putting up a facade and just being honest. There are so many blogs out there and I really respect the people who tell it how it is. So all of you who think that this Internet world will judge you, think again and write your feelings because that's what we're here for and unfortunately, People can tell if you are being real and to those people, we love you, just be you, that is WHY we love you!!! :)"
P.S. Thank you so much Rochelle for the encouragement to be ME... I love you! You inspire me everyday!

IN LOVE WITH TWILIGHT!!!

After reading a blog post about someone's experience seeing Twilight, I wasn't AS excited to see the movie. I mean, I was still excited, I guess I just had lowered my expectations. Tyson and I saw it tonight (Tyson loves the books too) and we absolutely LOVED it! There is not a single thing I would change about the entire movie. There were tons of teenage girls in the audience that screamed everytime Edward would show his face. It was annoying Tyson a little bit but I was just as happy to see his face as they were;) All in all, the fight seen was amazing and the baseball scene was really great. I can't wait for the next one! Tyson liked it also and we had a great time. I just had to post this because was so excited about the movie I had to blog about it. I am seeing it again on Monday night with my friend Molly, can't wait!

Thanksgiving

Is it just me, or did the holiday season just sneak up on us?? I can't believe Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and then there is Christmas! Wow! Maybe it came so fast because we have done alot this year and it went by so fast. I love the Thanksgiving holiday and its Tysons favorite holiday. The family, the food and especially, the football. We are excited that we get to spend Thanksgiving this year at Tyson's aunt and uncle's house with Grandma and Grandpa Schrader and other family members that we rarely get to see and visit with. I think its important to reflect on all things that we are grateful for and be thankful for our loved ones. Tyson and I are so grateful to our families and our friends here in Las Vegas for all of their support and their friendship. They have really made a difference in our lives here. We wish you all a happy holiday season.

Halloween

This year for Halloween, Tyson and I decided to take the kids to our wards' "Trunk or Treat" on Thursday. We were invited by our neighbors Molly & Jason and the bishop. It was craziness!! There were 4 wards packed into one parking lot and there was tons of food, everyone was dressed up! Kai was Iron man and Ashtyn was snow white, Tyson and I dressed up as Ute fans with our neighbors, it was so fun! A few people had the same outfits on and Kai was asking about it, I just explained to him that IMITATION IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF FLATTERY and that we should take it as a compliment. He liked that idea and was happy to see other people dressed the same. All in all Halloween was a blast and the kids were hilarious. Kai had a full bucket of candy and we were still walking around and he said, "I think I am done now, I have plenty of candy, thanks anyway!" LOL, I thought I was in the twilight zone! Ashtyn just kept unwrapping all of her candy so she could shovel it in her mouth!
Halloween evening we invited John and Sandy (our aunt and uncle) over for game night and I made my famous 5 bean stew (so yummy) We played Catch Phrase and Immaginiff, they were so fun! Sandy and I were a team and John and Tyson were a team. (needless to say, Sandy and I kicked their butts!) I am so glad that they live in Las Vegas now we can spend more time with them. Sandy is so much fun and a sweetheart and John is great and funny! The kids loved both of them!! We had a great time. Thanks you guys and we'll see you at Thanksgiving!! Hope you all enjoyed your Halloween and have a great holiday season!! xoxo

Kai's a SUPERSTAR!!

Today Kai had a performance at his school. All of the kindergartner's sang Halloween songs to all of the parents and families decked out in their costumes. Kai had received a Iron man costume for his birthday in September and he was so excited to wear it! Well, I got him ready for school this afternoon and he'd OUTGROWN the costume! It was too late for me to fix it or come up with something else, so poor Kai was the only one not dressed up! So he is easy to spot in the pics! I apologize for the video, Its a little shaky because I used my picture camera and people were bumping into me because it was so crowded! He is so cute! ENJOY!

Pippi Longstockings

Friday night, we wanted to celebrate my birthday early with our friends. We went to a restaurant called "Dick's Last Resort" at the Excalibur Casino. Its one of those places where the waiters are mean to you. WE HAD A BLAST!! I have some classic pictures from the night for my birthday I got a special dance from Taco, a very big guy that works there. They also made us special hats that were 2 feet tall that we had to wear all night. Our hats all said something funny, but then Tyson's hat came, and it was the best. Tell me what you all think of this new "Do".

GOODBYE, HAIR!!

Yesterday Tyson decided that it was time to shave his head! All of his mom's side of the family men are bald and they all rock it! Tyson just decided it was time. So, we went to his friend's house to watch the Utes play (they won of course) and Tyson's good friend, Jared was more than willing to shave his head. Ashtyn did not like it, she was so scared and thought her daddy was getting hurt by the shaver. She cried and had to go inside the house and watch from the window. Afterwards, she ran to Tyson and hugged him and rubbed his head and said, "Hair all gone." I got pictures of the before and after. It looks great, he's so cute and now he fits in with all his uncles and brother. I think I will steal your nick name Tara and call him BHB!!

Ashtyn~isms
I just have to share some things about Ashtyn that are so cute!! She is talking alot better and Tyson, Kai and I understand her great. There are a few words though that we have no idea how she came up with them. First, She likes to burp JUST so she can say "Shwinky" (excuse me) its funny, of course you all know Tyson taught her that!! Her favorite treat is a marshmallow. If she eats all her dinner, or feels she deserves a marshmallow, she walks up to me or Ty and says, "Can I have a Scwonch scwonch?" (No idea how to spell this new word) And it took me a while to figure out what she was saying. For a while Tyson and I tried to correct her but there is NO correcting Ashtyn. She is very Independant and stubborn (I do not know where she gets that@!) She makes the funniest facial expressions!! The other night we were watching The Little Mermaid and it was a part in the movie where Ariel is crying. Ashtyn immediatley put her face in her hands and did this unbeleivable FAKE cry! I just stared and was like, I have a mini actress as a daughter! She tries to use the fake cry on me but she knows it only works with her daddy:) Its so cute though:)

Family. . . . . . .
-- John Bowring
So far our family has lived in Las Vegas for one month and I have to tell you, WE LOVE IT!! Now don’t get me wrong, I am sure I will have my moments where I don’t love it so much, but moving here has made such a wonderful impact on my children and my relationship with Tyson . Just having my husband home every night to cuddle up to and to be there to hold me if I have a bad dream and to play catch with Kai and to console Ashtyn when she is sad, (not to mention me and Kai) has just been such a joy to see happen right before our eyes. I would never dream of going back to life before this move. Which consisted of Tyson leaving for Las Vegas every Sunday morning at 4 a.m. and stay in Vegas for three and four days at a time just to come home to his family (2 hour drive each way, twice a week) and be exhausted from working so much and driving so much. By the time he would get home, we were all anxious to see him and attack him when he got home and all he wanted to do and needed to do was rest. I was pretty much a single mother for half of the week without friends or family to support us. ( I have a new found respect for single mothers) My kids were also very lonely, it was so hard for them to make friends in St. George.
NOW, it’s so completely different, one of those changes in life that bring you the things that a lot of us take for granted. We have the luxury of living very close to Tyson’s co-workers that have become very good friends to us and they have young kids Kai’s and Ashtyn’s age and they all became quick friends, and so begins the endless cycle of birthday parties!! To Which we enjoy thoroughly. I love to see the smiles on my childrens’ faces to have friends to play with and so much to do here. I also wanted to say publicly on this blog how much I truly adore and unconditionally love m husband, Tyson. Every day he amazes me at his commitment to his family. He truly is a family man and is not afraid to show it. He loves his kids and is wonderful to them and is the most loving, loyal, self-less, supportive and beautiful human being I have ever known. I am a very lucky woman to have Tyson and my kids, Kai & Ashtyn in my life and I cherish and value ever second.

Fun at butterfly park!

These pics were taken a few days ago, I took the kids to butterfly park before Kai had to get to school. It was a beautiful day and the park wasn't too crowded. I met a group of Army wives there also that take their kids every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday since these mornings are the best and least crowded. I made quick friends with them and am looking forward to meeting with them during the first of the week. Here are the cute pics, Kai and Ash had a BLAST!!
Kai is 6 years old!!

Yesterday was a BIG day in the Schrader family!! Kai turned 6!! It seems so insignificant, but of course not for our family!! Kai started school a few weeks ago and I remember dropping him off at the gate in front of the kindergarten yard. There were about 20+ other parents there dropping their kids off also. I gave Kai a kiss and told him to have a good day. He ran up to the gate and before going inside, he turned around and said,
" I Love you mom, are you going to be okay without me for a few hours?" and with tears in my eyes, I said, "yes, Kai, but I'll miss ya."
With that Kai came back and gave me and Ashtyn a big hug and kiss (in front of all these other parents) and ran back into the gate.
My heart literally melted and I immediatley got into the truck with Ash and cried. It was so bittersweet. I was so proud of Kai for starting school, also scared for him and also so full of joy that he was more than happy to show how much he loves his family in front of all those parents. (I know that might change as he gets older)
I called Tyson and told him how sweet it was and I feel like life goes by so fast, we need to cherish every second we have with each other.

Quirks
Quirk #1... Anytime the television is on or the radio I have to set the volume on an EVEN number. But for some reason 15 and 21 are okay, but no other odd numbers!! Tyson gets a kick out of it and changes the volume to an odd number when I'm not looking and I get all irritated about it. He gets a good laugh every time.
Quirk #2... Anytime I say anything that is going good, I absolutley have to say, "Knock on Wood." and find the closest thing that contains wood as soon as possible to knock on it!!
Quirk #3... When Tyson is gone late at night and I hear a noise or get spooked for any reason, I sing "I am a child of God" really loud so the "bad guy" can hear me. Afterwards, I turn on the Golden Girls or Mad About You and watch it, only then do I feel better and am able to sleep.
Quirk #4... I like to read magazines backwards. I start at the last page and work my way to the front. I think its better that way.
Quirk #5... I have to lock the doors at night in order. Garage door, sliding glass door, then the front door. If I did it out of order for some reason, I go back and do it all over again. Then I check the doors 5 minutes later and peek out the windows to make sure we're safe. (maybe a little OCD)
Quirk #6... Every time I lose an eyelash, I put it on the tip of my finger, close my eyes, make a wish and blow it off my finger. I feel like my wish will for sure come true!!

Kylie-ism
Me: "Tyson, are you watching the news?"
Ty: "No, why?"
Me: "because Russia invaded Georgia!! I told you something like the movie Red Dawn could happen here!"
Ty: (laughing hysterically) "Wrong Georgia Kylie."
Apparently I was confused and thought Russia had invaded the state of Georgia. Yeah, not my brightest moment.
I'm sure somewhere in Hollywood, Jessica Simpson was thinking that SAME THING!! lol
