Who Knew?

The other day, we received a coupon on our front door for Kohl's. It was a $10 off a $20 or more purchase. Kai needed pants for church, so I went to Kohl's in search for some new slacks. Since they were also having a huge sale, I scored him some dark brown dress pants that were only $7.80!! I also got him a dress shirt for $4.30. What a deal! I got to the check-out and noticed they had these cute Dr. Seuss books and stuffed Dr. Seuss characters from the some new books that were out (at least I think they are new because I have not heard of them yet) 100% of the net profit from the sale of these items are going to support health and educational opportunities for children nationwide.
Since my total was only at $12.10, I got Kai and Ashtyn each one of the stuffed characters. I LOVED them, I could not resist, they were so ugly that they were cute. I had never seen a stuffed Dr. Seuss character and it was for a good cause. I ended up actually spending $3.00 total, after taking off the coupon. What a great deal!
When I arrived home, I let Ashtyn pick first and she picked this one

Kai ended up with this one

THEY LOVED THEM! For the rest of the night, Kai and Ashtyn were inseperable with these dolls. They were talking to them and cuddling them and when I went to check on them after they had fallen asleep, there they were, all snuggled up to their ugly Dr Seuss dolls. I never understood spending money on stuffed animals because I think they are kind of pointless, but tonight I ate my words. Those stuffed animals were worth every penny, and I mean PENNY! :)

Favorite Products

I thought I would write a list of some of my favorite products, I love when people suggest new products to me, so here it goes.

Aquaphor
Tyson has really dry skin and I also get dry feet really bad and I HATE the feeling of dry feet, eww! So, Tyson and I rub this Aquaphor all over our feet and put socks on over them at night, it works wonders!!

MAC Studio Fix powder
I LOVE this stuff, I have tried so many different foundations and this is by far my favorite. It is a powder and a light foundation in one and it makes your face look so good and smooth in pictures and in person. Although it is a bit pricey, It will last a long time!!

Biosilk Hair Serum
This is the best stuff for your hair! I put it on after I dry my hair and a little goes a long way, it also smells so good. It is good for your skin as well, so you can rub the excess into your hands.:)

C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve
This rose smelling stuff can be used for so many things! I use it for my lips, my cuticles, any rough skin. If you like the soft scent of roses, this is great stuff!

Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle cream
Speaking of cuticles, I love this cuticle cream and I use it ALL of the time, it smells so yummy and works wonders! (even on Tysons feet)

Love Spell
Need I say more? I love the smell of love spell, if you put your body sprays in the fridge, then when you are hot and sweaty from the heat outside, spray the cold mist on you and it cools you off AND makes you smell good!

Midnight Pomegranite body cream
Bath and Body Works has teh best body creams, they are so much improved from before and really work good on your skin. Some of the scents I think are a little over-the-top, but I LOVE this one. I have a few others that I like, but this one is by far the best and it works really well.

I don't know if this is helpful to any of you, I just thought it would be a fun post. Enjoy! :)

I hope they call me on a mission......

This is a picture that Kai drew of him and his friend, they look suspiciously like missionaries. :)

Kai has been asking a lot of questions about the church recently, and about the "church books". The Mister and I have been telling him some stories in the Book of Mormon that he likes to listen to. He asked us if he could have some church books of his own and we found him a BOM and a Bible. He just likes the idea of having his own and we told him that we would get him his own set, engraved and all, this year when he turns 8 and gets "Babatized". He is pretty stoked about that.

Monday, I picked him up from the bus stop and out he comes carrying his Book of Mormon for the world to see. At first, I am ashamed to say, I was embarrassed. His bus stop is on a main road where all the cars have to wait and there is always a long line of cars waiting at that time of day, I mean, everyone could see what he was holding. I know, dumb excuse, but don't worry, my embarrassment was quickly replaced by pride. Deep, humbling, PRIDE. I asked him why he took his BOM to school and he said, "I wanted to show all of my friends, I even let Skyler read some pages!" He was so excited about it. He took it to school for the rest of the week.

I learned an important lesson, so many of us are afraid to talk about or share our love of the gospel in public because of what people may say or think. Watching Kai be so excited about showing off his "church book" just because he wanted to share his excitement with everyone at school. It's amazing how much we can learn from our children.
I think Kai would make an awesome missionary, if that is what he wants to do.:)

Kai-ism

Kai: "Mommy, I am so sad."
Me: "Why are you sad?"
Kai: "NeNe(Tyson) just told me how your mommy lost all of her pretty hair and had to wear a wig."
Me: "Yeah, my mommy got really sick, and with the medicine they gave her, it made her lose her pretty hair. She is in heaven now."
Kai: "Don't worry, you can see her when you go to heaven."

10th Photo

~RULES~

*Open your first Photo folder

*Find the 10th photo down (if it doesnt have 10 - go to the next folder)

*Post the photo and tell the story

This is a picture of Ashtyn cooling off in the middle of a very hot summer in St George, Utah. We took her to the Main Street square where they had recently built a little splash pad for the kids, they also added fun little ditches and mini waterfalls that the kids LOVED! There were always tons of kids there running around splashing and playing. Ash was pretty worn out by this time and was just chillin in the water with her precious sunglasses that happened to be her attachment at the moment, and her little dig mark under her eye... not sure if that was a battle scar from big brother or a classic "Ashtyn throws a fit" scar....:)

Who asked who out?
I actually TOLD him to take me to breakfast the day after I met him:) We went to IHOP and he says that is when he knew I wanted to marry me.:)

His. Both of our families live in different states than us, but I cam closer to his siblings than I am with my own. We just have more in common, but we don't see each other as much as I would like.

Do you have children together?
YES! 2 kids. Kai and Ashtyn, and we're done!

Did you go to the same school?
No, he went to Skyline and I went to Spanish Fork

Him. Tyson hates my driving. I drive bad when he is in the car because he makes me nervous and is the WORST backseat driver. From my heart to yours....

HaPpY VaLeNtiNeS DaY!!! What a perfect holiday to celebrate my word of the year, LOVE. The Mister and I do not usually make a big deal out of the holiday, this year he surprised me with a new printer that we REALLY needed.

The printer we had finally died and I need one for school. He was very thoughtful and got a printer/copier/scanner combo so that we can print out our own pictures and save money. I was very surprised because Tyson doesn't usually go all out for Valentines, lets face it, he's a guy.

We were able to go on a day date and we went and saw the movie, Wolfman. (I really didn't like it) and we also went to King Putts mini golf which is a indoor golf course that is dark with black lights and neon pictures all over.

It was pretty fun, mostly because I WON!! All in all, it was a fun, cheap date (the best kind) and since we only had Ashtyn because Kai is in Utah for the long weekend, the sitter was cheaper. :) I got Tyson a sweet card and a Starbucks gift card because he loves to go to Starbucks at 4 AM before work, but he wont spend any money so he only goes if he has a gift card. :) We had a great holiday and I hope you all had a wonderful one as well! Loves!! XoXo

UPDATE~

So, things went better than usual. This time, they gave Ashtyn a liquid concoction of sedatives and had us take her out into the waiting room for about 45 minutes to let it kick in. Ashtyn was acting a little goofy but it did not seem to phase her all that much. The dentist told us that they would also use the laughing gas on her and hopefully that would calm her down enough to at least take care of her baby root canal and crown they needed to put on. There was also about 3 teeth that needed fillings, the dentist said if she fought them, they would only do the bad tooth and the rest would have to wait until the next appointment.

I walked Ashtyn back and she refused to put on the gas, she held onto me for dear life and was screaming, they had put her into a special, small office with sound-proof doors so she would not disturb the other patients. They asked me to leave since some kids do better without the parents there. I left and about 10 minutes later, the dentist took me aside and they had gotten the gas on her and she was calming down, he told me that she was calm for now, but that she seemed like she had a strong will and strong personality so he was not sure if she would freak out when he gave her the shots to numb her mouth. He said if she got too wild, they would have to put a "wrap" on her to keep her hands down, he asked me if this was a problem and I said, "No" After all, we needed to do whatever we could so that we did not have to pay for an expensive surgery just because Ashtyn was behaving badly.

I went and waited with Tyson and about 30 minutes later, they brought me back and said they did have to use the wrap, but that they had been able to do the root canal and the crown and that she needed to come back in 3 months because she was just too difficult to finish the work. He said in 3 months, if her behavior hasn't changed significantly, they would have to put her to sleep. I was just glad they had fixed the bad tooth for now, but I am going to work SO hard in the next 3 months so that we can get this dental work out of the way.

I feel like such a bad parent, I mean, we do have our kids brush their teeth every night, but we were never crazy sticklers for it. I regret that. I am a stickler now, you better believe it! I learned important lessons today, very important lessons.

Off to the dentist we go.......

Ashtyn is terrified of any kind of doctor. Io mean, TERRIFIED. We have taken her into the dentist 3 times!! None of them would even try because she was crying and really scared, but these dentists didn't even try. They were all from the same chain of dental offices called Absolute Dental (NEVER go there) because we thought that our insurance only takes them. We finally discovered that this is not the case, through Absolute Dental, we all get $2500 a year worth of dental work that is ALL paid for, but ONLY through Absolute Dental. It is SO not worth it. They will do anything they can, even try to push unneccessary dental work onto you to get the price over $2500. It is ridiculous.

Yesterday, we took Miss Ashtyn to a new Pedatric Dentist, Dr. Waggoner. He was amazing and was so calm with Ashtyn, that even though she cried, he was able to do a full exam. But, he was not able to get x-rays. He spoke with us in great detail about today's procedure. He is going to give Ashtyn a mixture 2 medications to relax her enough to cap one of her teeth and to give her x-rays, and if that goes well, they will do the fillings today too. I am PRAYING that this goes well. If not, we will have to pay a ton of money for surgery, which, of course we will do, but we could really use the money for other things (like saving up to visit family) I have been praying so hard that Ashtyn is calm and at peace knowing she is in good hands.

I will let you all know how it goes. I will be there all morning, if all goes well that is and they are able to get all of the work done today.

Kai's first prayer

No one is a firmer believer in the power of prayer than the devil; not that he practices it, but he suffers from it. ~Guy H. King

Tonight, Tyson, Kai and I walked up to my bedroom to read and plopped onto our King size bed, so we were plenty comfortable. I have been reading the Book of Mormon for the last couple of weeks and was going to just read with Tyson, but Kai wanted to listen too.

Ashtyn was asleep, so just the three of us sat on my bed and right away Kai asked us why he has to eat the bread and water at church. So, Tyson took over (he is usually quiet when I read) and he asked Kai if he knew what a symbol was or what it meant. Kai said "yes" and Tyson went on to talk about how when you put the batman symbol in the air, it is so Batman himself will come help them. I thought it was an awesome example, so I sat there quietly listening to the love of my life teach our son about Jesus and Sacrament and Faith. I was in complete and utter AWE. I cried silent, happy tears as I listened to my Kai's innocent yet profound questions about what my husband was telling him. Kai seemed so eager and so hungry to learn more. I LOVED IT!!

The spirit was so thick, it was almost tangible. I felt so proud of Tyson teaching us both what he knows in such a calm way. After they had their little discussion we kept talking about faith and I told him a few stories from the BOM and he loved it. He asked me if he could say a prayer but he didn't want to mess up so I told him we would just do a practice prayer, this is what he said after we all folded our arms and bowed our heads:

"Dear Heavenly father, bless that my parents are safe, bless that my sister will be better, bless that I will have a good day tomorrow and I will be good. I'm thankful for my sister that is sometimes nice to me and I love my family. God, please help us. AMEN"

I felt so proud of my little Kai for this HUGE accomplishment. I smiled him my biggest smile and Tyson had a tear going down his cheek and said, "Kai that was a perfect prayer, I love you buddy, good night." I gave him a huge bear hug and told him how proud I was of him and how proud Jesus and God are of him and I also told him how proud his Grandma Best and Grandpa George were of him. He was on cloud 9. I tucked him into bed and he asked me to sleep with him in case he gets scared. With this I told him, "Kai, another wonderful thing you can ask God for is to help you when you are scared. You can ask him to help you get the thoughts out of your head, or ask him to keep you safe, just do not ever forget to tell him how thankful you are for happy things you have in your life. Goodnight Booger, I love you more than anything."

Off I went, looked back and saw him with eyes closed and a bowed head.

What do ya think??

Kylie~isms

Last night while on the phone with my cousin Shelly.

Me: "What are ya doin?"

Shell: "Just ironing Jeremy's clothes so that he'll go to the gym with me in the morning."

Me: "Wait a minute......you guys iron your GYM clothes?!"

Shelly, laughing.........
Apparently that was not the case. She was ironing Jeremy's work clothes so he could get ready quickly when he got home from the gym. Is this obvious to anyone else?? LOL

A few weeks ago at my sons school, I was talking to my friend, Jessica, who is also the mother of a girl in my sons class.

Jess: "We could get together next week sometime to go over the pages for the yearbook, you can come to my house, or if it is easier, I'll just bring my computer to yours."

Me: "What?! That is crazy! You don't want to do that!"

Jess: "Why not?"

Me: "Are you kidding? Loading your monitor, keyboard, and hard-drive into your car and bringing it all the way to my house!? That is crazy." (I was laughing at her for this ridiculous suggestion)

Jess: (laughing and patting my head) "I have a laptop honey, this is why we love you."

WOW, I felt dumb.

Gratitude Log

I joined gratitudelog.com a few days ago and I just love it! Anything that helps people remember what they are grateful for and to count their blessings each day is great in my book. The idea is like updating your status on facebook, only, you write what you are grateful for each day! Unlike facebook, there is only positive things on this site and it really helps to keep your thoughts positive and there is always a thought of what you are grateful for in the back of your mind. It claims that people who use it are 25% happier. I believe it.

I think there is always room in my life for any kind of positivity! I urge you to join and see what it does for you! (no they didn't give me any commission for this, dang!;)

Dr. Seuss is a genius.....

I’m sorry to say so but, sadly, it’s true
that Bang-ups and Hang-ups can happen to you.

You can get all hung up in a prickle-ly perch.
And your gang will fly on. You’ll be left in a Lurch.

You’ll come down from the Lurch with an unpleasant bump.
And the chances are, then, that you’ll be in a Slump.

And when you’re in a Slump, you’re not in for much fun.
Un-slumping yourself is not easily done.

You will come to a place where the streets are not marked.
Some windows are lighted. But mostly they’re darked.
A place you could sprain both your elbow and chin!
Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in?
How much can you lose?
How much can you win?

And if you go in, should you turn left or right…
or right-and-three-quarters?
Or, maybe, not quite?
Or go around back and sneak in from behind?
Simple it’s not, I’m afraid you will find,
for a mind-maker-upper to make up his mind.

. . . .

On you will go though the weather be foul.
On you will go though your enemies prowl.
On you will go though the Hakken-Kraks howl.
Onward up many a frightening creek,
though your arms may get sore and your sneakers may leak.
On and on you will hike.
And I know you’ll hike far and face up to your problems whatever they are.
. . . .

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)

The Screwtape letters

This book helped me get back to church. I loved this book so much and although it is fictional, it really isn't. The book is is a series of 31 letters written between a senior devil (screwtape) to a junior devil (wormwood). Screwtape advises Wormwood throughout the book on how to keep a person from living their Christian faith. It teaches him specifically what to do to keep them from doing anything that has to do with Christianity.

It got me thinking, hard, about how these ideas get pushed into my mind. Indecision was a big one. Satan wants us to be undecided, and I was for so very long. Should I go to church? Why not wait a little longer? Do I really need God in my life? The answers to these questions are more and more clear to me every day. It truly is an awesome book that I urge all of you to read, it is an easy read and takes no time at all.

Let me know your thoughts if you do read it or if you have read it. Happy Reading!!
